Recap and recall
Explain that the children will create a mind map to help them remember what they learnt about the micro:bit in the previous lesson. Hand out whiteboards and pens and display the Presentation: Mind map. Read the slide aloud and allow time for the children to complete the activity.

Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Should create an animation using only three images to reduce the amount of code and focus on sequencing movement; could use the ‘show icon’ block in the ‘basic’ menu, which provides ready-made images to build confidence.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should create an animation with at least five frames and smooth transitions, justifying how this makes the animation more realistic; should add an input block (for example, Button A, Button B or shake) to start or stop the animation and use sentence starters (e.g. ‘When I press…’, ‘This part of my code…’) to explain how their program works; could adapt the animation by changing speed or repeating sequences using different timing blocks or loops.
