Animating light with star effects
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Computing scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and shows how to animate a star using digital drawing tools and background selection. Starting with a space-themed background, the video demonstrates how to add rays of light to a star using the yellow pen tool with a small brush size. Pupils are guided through each frame of the animation, including how to repeat drawings using the onion skinning feature and when to leave frames blank to create a flashing light effect.
The animation is built frame by frame, helping pupils understand how small changes create movement. By toggling frames with and without the light rays and using the onion skinning tool to trace accurately, pupils learn how to build a simple but effective digital animation. The video finishes by showing how the final sequence brings the star to life with animated light.
