Creating your first stop-motion animation

This Computing video guides the children through making their own stop-motion animation using the Stop Motion Studio app.

The video shows how to start a new movie, add a background and object and use tools like the grid and onion skinning to help position objects more precisely. Children are encouraged to move their object a little each time and take a photo with the red button to build a sequence of frames. Onion skinning helps them see where the object was in the previous frame, so their movement looks smooth. Once the photos are complete, they can press play to watch their animation come to life and create a unique and fun stop-motion film.

This video is part of the Year 5, Creating media: Stop motion animation unit. It supports the children to develop their creativity and understanding of digital media.
