Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
- Could use examples from the Presentation: Comparing artists to support creating different painting effects.
- Could use the Knowledge organiser to support recalling primary and secondary colours when mixing paint.
- Could use pre-mixed thin paint to focus on creating a smooth, even wash background.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should control how much water they add to paint to achieve deliberate effects (for example, ‘When I add more water, the colour spreads further across the page’).
- Should explain how the way paint moves, blends or overlaps changes the final effect (for example, ‘The colours mixed together to make a softer background’).
- Should reflect on how their use of paint helps to communicate an idea or feeling (for example, ‘The pale colours make it feel calm’ or ‘The drips make it look energetic’).
- Could vary brush movements or tools to explore different ways paint flows and settles on the page.
