Pupils needing extra support:

• Could be provided with easy-grip scissors.
• Could explore simple compositions by trialling overlapping and placement first.
• Could refer to a worked example to support composition decisions by adapting layout ideas to their own theme.
• Could work on a larger scale and be given some simple suggestions that fit the chosen theme, e.g. a house, an animal, a garden.

Pupils working at greater depth:

• Should justify their choices of colour, texture and materials in relation to their idea or theme.
• Should refine their arrangement through multiple trials before fixing materials in place.
• Should use overlapping deliberately to create emphasis, contrast or a sense of depth.
• Could use warm and cool colours purposefully to strengthen mood or atmosphere.
