Put them in pairs and ask each child to show their rubbings to their partner and discuss the marks (a line, dot or shape made on a surface using a tool or material). Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
- Could use a small selection of pre-chosen texture examples to generate ideas for painted effects by focusing on recreating one surface at a time.
- Could use ready-mixed colours to concentrate on mark-making techniques by reducing the need to mix paint independently.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should experiment deliberately with tools, layers, pressure and direction to create unique textured effects.
- Should explain their artistic decisions, referring to choices of tool, colour, layering and technique.
- Could layer different tools or change tools mid-mark to increase complexity.
- Could select colours purposefully (for example, warm or cool) to create a particular mood or atmosphere.
