Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

  • Could work with a smaller selection of found materials and focus on simple placement choices.
  • Could arrange and rearrange their pieces with adult or peer support before sticking them down.
  • Could use prompts such as ‘What could you move?’ or ‘Where could you leave some space?’

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should arrange materials deliberately to draw attention to a chosen focal point and guide the viewer’s eye.
  • Should experiment with different arrangements, moving or removing materials to improve the composition.
  • Should explain how their use of size, overlap and empty space affects what stands out in the finished artwork.
  • Could explore how using fewer materials changes the overall composition.
