Introducing the new Art and design scheme

Introducing Art and design

This customer information video outlines the exciting updates coming to the Kapow Primary Art and Design scheme. The revised scheme introduces a more clearly defined structure, with lessons allocated into four recurring strands across all year groups: Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media, Sculpture and 3D, and Craft and Design. These refinements are designed to enhance progression in both knowledge and skills, ensuring pupils build confidence and control in their artistic journey. The updated scheme also offers greater diversity in artistic examples, improved guidance on sketchbook use, and cross-curricular opportunities through optional themed lessons.

Teachers can be reassured that the much-loved original content will still be available alongside the new lessons. The updated scheme increases flexibility, making it easier to adapt lessons and plan across year groups by using the revised Progression of Skills and Knowledge documents. All planning materials will be updated over the summer term, with the new units added to the website gradually. This allows teachers time to explore the changes and begin preparing for the next academic year with confidence.
