Recap and recall
Before starting this unit, ensure that the children can recall: Many things that move have parts inside to help them work. Many moving things have parts inside to help them work. Mechanisms usually limit unwanted movement. An axle allows the wheel to turn without falling off.

Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
Should watch the Pupil video: Making prototype one as they make their car so they do not need to remember all the steps; could use the Knowledge organiser to help answer the questions during the Wrapping up.
Pupils working at greater depth:
Should draw a sketch of the prototype in their books and annotate with weaknesses (for example, the chassis is not very strong as it is held together with masking tape or the car requires an inclined plane or push to move) and improvements (for example, the chassis could be stuck together with hot glue or the car could have an electric motor to make the wheels spin).
