Should use the Resource: Helmet users to support their planning and narrow down options for user choices; should use Activity: Design brief: support version with sentence starters and word banks to structure ideas; could refer to the Knowedlege organiser for vocabulary prompts (helmet, protect, strengthen, shell structure) and to see some of the helmets designs discussed when completing the design brief.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should articulate why helmets need to be strong by drawing on what they know about forces (pushes and pulls) and examples of hazards that helmets protect against; justify their own helmet design choices by comparing them with existing examples, explaining how shape and features meet specific user needs.
