Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing support:
- Could use the Knowledge organiser to support understanding of key vocabulary during discussions.
- Could rehearse regulation strategies physically (e.g. practising breathing) before or after discussing them to aid understanding.
- Could complete the Wrapping up reflection for a character from a book or film if they find it difficult to do it about themselves.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should offer multiple alternative responses to the scenarios explored in the Main event.
- Should write an ‘exit ticket’—one word that shows how the character will regulate next time during the Activity: Can you help them regulate?
- Should evaluate multiple strategies during the Activity: Can you help them regulate, ranking them from most to least helpful and justifying their choices.
- Could rewrite one of the scenarios in the Activity: Can you help them regulate? and include the character using a regulation strategy, showing how it might change the outcome.
