Understanding feelings through expressions and body language

This RSE & PSHE video helps the children recognise how emotions and feelings can be shown through facial expressions and body language. Through simple examples, the children learn that clues such as a smile, a frown, crossed arms or a lowered head and shoulders can help them understand how someone might be feeling.

The video helps the children understand that everyone shows their feelings in different ways. The children are encouraged to look carefully at what is happening, use feeling words to describe what they notice and check their ideas by asking kind questions and listening to the answer. This supports the children in developing empathy, emotional awareness and respectful communication.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS1 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
