Before starting this unit, check that the children can recall: Electricity can be used to make some products or appliances work. Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

  • Could use the Resource: Building a circuit during the Main event to guide the children in connecting the components correctly.
  • Could use the Knowledge organiser to remind them of some common electrical products to reinforce the difference between electrical and non-electrical.
  • Could use the Activity: Why are electrical products useful?: support version to allow them to express their understanding of the topic with less demand for writing.

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should suggest a wider range of electrical products found in the home and school with different and multiple outputs.
  • Could suggest why the housing of some products is designed with different shapes and colours to appeal to different users.
