Understanding puberty and growing up

This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand what puberty is and how their bodies and emotions may change as they grow up. It explains that puberty is a natural stage of development that usually begins between the ages of 8 and 14, and reassures them that everyone experiences these changes at their own pace.

The children learn about some of the physical and emotional changes that can happen during puberty. These include growing taller and stronger, developing body hair, changes to the skin, increased sweating and stronger emotions. The video also introduces some of the changes that are more common in boys, such as a deeper voice and growth of the penis and testicles, and some that are more common in girls, such as breast development and periods. Throughout, the children are reminded that puberty is a normal part of growing up and are encouraged to look after their wellbeing and talk to trusted adults if they have questions or worries.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
