Protected characteristics
This RSE & PSHE video helps the pupils understand what protected characteristics are and why they matter. It explains that everyone has many characteristics and introduces the Equality Act as an important UK law that protects people from unfair treatment. The pupils learn that the law says we must not be unkind, threatening or unfair to anyone because of certain characteristics, helping everyone take part in school and everyday life.
Through real examples, the pupils see how inclusion works in practice, such as making sure everyone can join in activities and feel supported. The video helps the pupils understand that inclusion means ensuring everyone feels safe, valued and able to take part. It also explores stereotypes and discrimination, helping the pupils recognise that stereotypes can be unfair and that discrimination means treating someone less fairly because of who they are. The pupils are encouraged to challenge discrimination in a safe and respectful way, supporting fairness and respect for others.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE UKS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
