Understanding helpful and harmful drugs and medicines

This RSE & PSHE video helps the pupils understand the difference between helpful and harmful drugs and medicines. They learn that drugs are chemicals that can change how the body or mind works and that medicines are a type of drug used to help prevent or treat illness. The video explains how medicines can support health when used correctly and why they should only be taken with the guidance of a trusted adult.

The video also helps the pupils understand how medicines can be harmful if they are not used safely. They learn why they should never take medicine that belongs to someone else or accept medicine from people they do not know or trust. The video introduces examples of harmful drugs, including alcohol, cigarettes and vapes, and encourages the pupils to stop, think and check with a trusted adult if they are unsure about any medicine or substance. This supports the pupils in making safe and responsible choices.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
