Fruit-powered electricity

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and demonstrates how fruits can be used to create a simple battery. The video guides pupils step-by-step through the process of preparing materials—cleaning copper wires and nails, inserting them into different fruits, and connecting them in a chain using wire to complete a circuit.

Pupils learn how chemical energy in the fruit can be transformed into electrical energy, strong enough to light an LED. The video also reinforces key concepts such as electrical circuits, energy transfer, and polarity, while encouraging hands-on investigation and curiosity about how everyday materials can be used in scientific experiments.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Mixed-age, Y3/4 (A): Making connections: How does food affect muscle fatigue?, Y3/4 (A): Lesson 4: Investigating muscle fatigue – Extending
