Homes built by animals

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work . It is designed for pupils and explores how different animals build their homes using natural materials found in their environments. The video introduces a variety of animal builders, from ants digging underground nests to swans weaving grassy shelters by the water’s edge and beavers constructing sturdy lodges with branches, mud, and stone.

Pupils learn how animals use these homes to stay safe, care for their young, and store food. Through detailed examples, the video highlights the clever ways animals use soil, twigs, reeds, feathers, and mud to create shelters that protect them from weather and predators. It encourages pupils to appreciate the creativity and survival skills found in the animal kingdom.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Key stage 1, Year 1, Making connections: Investigating science through stories, Lesson 4: Building an animal home
