Journey through the trees

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work . It is designed for pupils and takes them on a journey through the fascinating world of trees. The video explores the structure and variety of trees, from tall trunks and twisting roots to the diverse shapes, colours, and textures of their leaves. Pupils are introduced to familiar trees like oak, horse chestnut, holly, and pine, and encouraged to observe natural features like acorns, conkers, and pinecones.

The video explains the key differences between deciduous and evergreen trees – how deciduous trees change with the seasons, shedding their leaves in winter, while evergreen trees keep their needle-like, waxy leaves all year round. Pupils are inspired to explore the outdoors, identifying trees by their leaves and understanding how seasonal changes affect these vital parts of nature.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Key stage 1, Year 1, Plants: Introduction to plants, Lesson 4: Deciduous and evergreen trees
