Teaching bullying prevention and support

This RSE & PSHE video supports teaching about bullying in a clear, consistent and supportive way. It explains that bullying is repeated, deliberate and unkind behaviour, introducing the memorable acronym STOP – Several Times On Purpose to help children understand the difference between bullying and occasional unkindness. The video highlights the important role adults play in creating an environment where children feel safe to speak up and seek help.

The video explores how children’s understanding of bullying develops over time, from recognising emotions and identifying unkind behaviour to understanding different forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, social and online bullying. Teachers are encouraged to use scenarios and distancing techniques to build empathy, develop problem-solving skills and practise strategies for responding to bullying safely. The video also introduces the concepts of bystanders and upstanders, emphasising that children can make a positive difference in many ways. Throughout, it highlights the importance of safeguarding, using language that focuses on behaviour rather than labels and ensuring children know where to find support if they are worried about bullying.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
