Understanding different types of families
This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand what families are and how they can be different. Through real-life examples, the children learn that families come in many shapes and sizes, but what makes them special is the care, love and support shared between the people in them.
The video shows a variety of family situations, including families with one parent or two parents, same-sex parents, step-families and extended family members such as grandparents, aunts and cousins. The children also see that some families live together in one home, while others stay connected across different homes or through calls and messages. This helps the children understand that every family is unique while sharing the same purpose of helping each other feel safe, cared for and supported.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS1 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
