Teaching boundaries, consent and respect
This RSE & PSHE video supports teaching about personal boundaries in a safe, age-appropriate and empowering way. It explains that personal boundaries help children feel safe and respected, and highlights their importance within statutory Relationships Education. The video explores how understanding boundaries supports learning about consent, autonomy and recognising when to seek help.
The video introduces different types of boundaries, including physical, emotional and online boundaries, and provides practical strategies for helping children recognise and communicate what feels comfortable to them. Teachers are encouraged to model respectful boundary-setting, reinforce that permission should be given before entering someone’s personal space and help children understand that boundaries can change depending on the person or situation. The video also includes guidance on creating a safe learning environment, responding to disclosures appropriately and ensuring children know how to seek support from trusted adults if something feels wrong or unsafe.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
