Introducing HTML

This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to HTML (HyperText Markup Language), which is the code that builds and organises websites. It helps the children understand how web pages are created and what happens behind the scenes.

The video explains that HTML is a text-based programming language made up of tags (special words and symbols) that tell a computer where to place text, images and videos. Although we cannot usually see HTML, it is working in the background every time we read, watch or click on a website. The children are shown how to use the ‘Inspect’ tool to explore real HTML code, making the invisible visible and encouraging curiosity about how the internet works.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Skills showcase: HTML unit. It introduces foundational web development concepts in an accessible way, supporting pupils to explore, understand and appreciate the building blocks of the digital world around them.
