Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

  • Could use chunky crayons or crayons wrapped in masking tape and thicker-handled paintbrushes to support grip and control.
  • Could copy the hand position alongside an adult modelling clearly.
  • Could use the Presentation: How to make a wax resist painting for visual prompts when using the wax-resist technique.

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should explain how the lines and patterns they have chosen show different ways water moves, referring to features such as ripples, waves or flowing water.
  • Should choose and apply colours purposefully, allowing them to blend or overlap to create different effects.
  • Should explain how the wax-resist technique works using appropriate vocabulary, such as resist, pattern and batik.
