Exploring French subject pronouns and verb conjugations

This French video introduces teachers to the use of subject pronouns and regular -er verb conjugations in the present tense, helping pupils recognise how verbs change in both spelling and sound depending on the subject. Using a simple shared reading activity, the lesson models the verb chanter (to sing) across different pronouns so that children can spot patterns for themselves and practise with actions.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme of work – grammar. It provides clear strategies to help children move beyond memorising vocabulary and into understanding how grammar structures operate. By focusing on pronouns such as je, tu, il/elle, nous, and vous, pupils discover that verb endings change predictably while many forms sound similar. With practice, they can apply these patterns to other -er verbs, building confidence and independence as language learners.
