Recognising and pronouncing the letter ‘u’ in Spanish

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils focus on the consistent and simple pronunciation of the ‘u’ sound. Pupils learn that in Spanish the letter ‘u’ always makes the same sound, like the English ‘oo’ in ‘food’, and is never written as a double vowel.

Using fun comparisons to familiar phrases in English and guided mouth mechanics, pupils are encouraged to shape their lips correctly and say the ‘u’ sound clearly. Repetition, visual cues and listening activities help pupils recognise this sound in Spanish words and pronounce it confidently. Through structured practice pupils develop phonetic knowledge and build strong foundations in speaking and listening.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and develop their language skills.
