Understanding how babies are made

This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand how babies are made. Using clear, factual and age-appropriate explanations, the video explores the roles of eggs and sperm in reproduction and introduces the process of fertilisation. It also explains that fertilisation can happen through sexual intercourse or with medical assistance such as IVF.

The children learn how an egg is released from an ovary and how sperm are produced after puberty. The video explains how a sperm can fertilise an egg, creating a fertilised cell that begins to divide and grow. It then explores how the fertilised egg travels to the womb, where it can develop into a baby, and introduces the term ‘pregnancy’. Throughout, reproduction is presented in a factual and respectful way, helping the children build an understanding of human development and reproduction.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
