Essential resources for the Kapow Primary Computing scheme
This comprehensive document covers each Kapow Primary Computing unit from EYFS (Reception) through to Year 6 and provides a detailed list of hardware, software and other equipment that you will need to have ready. Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme is authored by specialists and uses free, readily available software.
Computing leads can use this document to ensure that each year group is fully resourced; additionally, teachers may find it useful to give to support staff as they help set up the lesson.
How is the equipment list organised?
The list includes a range of compatible hardware options (e.g. desktop computers, laptops, iPads), freely available online software (e.g. Scratch, Sketchpad, Google Docs) and other necessary equipment (e.g. Bee-Bots, recording devices, stationery). Links to lesson plans and unit pages on Kapow Primary’s website are provided throughout.
The Computing equipment list is organised by year group and then further broken down into the following five key areas, repeated within each year group:
- Computing systems and networks, e.g. Sketchpad, MS Paint, MS Word, MS Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, MS Outlook, Trinket, devices with internet access.
- Programming, e.g. Bee-Bots (or similar), building blocks, recording devices, MakeCode, Scratch, BBC micro:bit, devices.
- Data handling, e.g. counting apparatus, clipboards, Sketchpad, thermometers, devices, etc.
- Creating media, e.g. Google/Microsoft Photos, MS PowerPoint, Sketchpad, stop-motion apps, WeVideo/iMovie, Google Sites.
- Online safety, e.g. poster paper, MS Word/Google Docs, paper plates, ribbon, etc.
