Exploring Earth’s moon

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores fascinating facts about Earth’s Moon, including what it is, how it moves, and the changes we see from Earth. Pupils will learn that the Moon is a natural object that orbits the Earth and reflects sunlight, making it visible in the sky. The video explains the different phases of the Moon, how they occur during its 27.5-day orbit, and why it appears to change shape. Pupils will also discover the Moon’s gravitational effect on Earth’s tides and learn how humans have explored it—starting with the first Moon landing in 1969. The video encourages observation of the Moon in the night sky and helps pupils understand its important role in our solar system.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, key stage 2, Year 5, Forces and space: Earth and space, Lesson 3: The Moon
