How do websites work?

This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to how websites work, breaking down the journey of information from a click to a screen. It supports Year 3 children in understanding the hidden processes behind everyday Internet use.

The video explains what happens when a web address is typed or a link is clicked, showing how this sends a request to a server, a powerful computer that stores website content like text, images and videos. Pupils see how the server locates the data and sends it back to their device, where the browser assembles the website almost instantly. The concept of the cloud is also introduced, showing that it is not in the sky but a global network of servers storing information safely and making it accessible anywhere with an Internet connection.
