Teaching children to evaluate online information

This RSE & PSHE video supports staff in helping pupils develop the skills to evaluate whether online information is reliable. It explores how children can move beyond trusting information that simply looks convincing and begin using evidence and questioning strategies to make informed judgements about what they see online.

The video introduces practical clues that can help pupils assess reliability, including checking who created the information, when it was published or updated, whether it is supported by other sources and why it was created. Teachers are guided to help children understand that no single clue can prove something is true and that online information should be approached thoughtfully, even when it appears professional or trustworthy. The video also highlights common misconceptions and encourages pupils to pause, question and seek further evidence when evaluating online content.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
