Recognising and pronouncing the soft 'r' sound

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils learn to distinguish and articulate the soft ‘r’ sound, a gentler phoneme often found in the middle of words such as verano. The video explains how this sound differs from the trilled ‘r’ and demonstrates how it is produced by briefly tapping the tip of the tongue against the roof of the mouth.

Through clear modelling and guided mouth mechanics, pupils are shown how to relax the tongue and avoid overusing the lips, promoting accurate production of this subtle but important sound. Pupils also practise recognising when and where the sound appears in words, reinforcing correct articulation and building confidence in Spanish pronunciation.
