Recognising and pronouncing the k/c/qu sounds in Spanish

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils are introduced to the ‘k’ sound in Spanish, exploring how it can be represented by the letters ‘k’, ‘c’ and qu’. While the sound may feel familiar, the range of spellings used in Spanish makes this an important focus for reading, pronunciation and spelling confidence.

Pupils are guided through examples of each spelling pattern and practise mouth mechanics to pronounce the ‘k’ sound clearly, using the back of the tongue against the soft palate to produce a crisp, voiceless consonant. The video includes modelling, repetition and sound-spotting activities to build accurate listening and speaking skills. Pupils also learn when different spellings are used, supporting phonics and vocabulary development.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and develop their language skills.
