Perfecting Spanish pronunciation

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Spanish scheme of work. It helps you understand how to pronounce Spanish words correctly by focusing on where to put the stress in each word. Stress is the part of a word that sounds stronger, like one letter is being stretched as you say it.

In Spanish, there are clear rules that tell us which syllable to stress. If a word ends in a vowel, n or s, the stress usually falls on the second-to-last syllable. If a word ends in any other consonant, the stress is on the final syllable. If a word doesn’t follow these rules, an accent is added to show where the stress should go. For example, in the word camión, the accent on the ó tells us to stress the last syllable. By learning and applying these simple pronunciation rules, you’ll soon speak Spanish with confidence and a great accent.
