Composing and improvising skills LKS2

This Music video introduces the core principles of teaching composing and improvising in Years 3 and 4. It explains how to move pupils beyond random sound exploration towards creating structured pieces using the interrelated dimensions of music. You’ll find practical strategies to help pupils compose with clear beginnings, middles and ends, and begin improvising within musical frameworks.

Children move on from exploring sounds in KS1, towards making music, working on the structural aspects of composing and improvising.
