Why rest and relaxation matter
This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand why rest and relaxation are important for feeling their best. Through simple examples, the children learn that when they are tired, they might yawn, feel grumpy, have sore eyes or an achy body, and that resting helps their bodies and brains feel better.
The video explains that rest is a basic need, like food and water. The children learn that when they sleep or rest, their muscles relax and their brains get a break so they have more energy to play, learn and have fun. Using the idea of an energy cup, the children see how energy can run low and how resting helps to fill it up again. They also explore different ways to rest and relax, such as reading, drawing, spending time outside or playing a quiet game, helping them understand that everyone needs time to slow down and that rest supports growth and wellbeing.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS1 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
