How to use Sketchpad

This Computing video supports teachers in developing pupils’ digital art skills using Sketchpad. It explores a range of drawing and image-editing tools that children can use to create and enhance their own digital artwork.

The video demonstrates how pupils can experiment with different brush styles, including Tile Brush, Paintbrush and Sketchy, as well as adjust brush thickness and apply a variety of colour effects. Teachers are supported in helping children make creative choices using a range of digital drawing tools.

It also explores the use of Sketchpad’s clipart library, showing how images can be searched for, inserted and manipulated. The video demonstrates how clipart can be resized, rotated, duplicated and positioned to create more detailed compositions.

The video highlights opportunities for extending learning through the use of tools such as duplication and snapping features. These functions can support pupils in creating patterns, organising images and producing more symmetrical designs.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which provide guidance and support to help teachers develop confidence and subject knowledge when delivering the computing curriculum.
