Teacher video: Teaching about manners
This RSE & PSHE video supports teaching manners as an important part of building positive relationships and respectful communities. It explains that manners are more than a set of rules; they help children understand how their words and actions affect others and encourage empathy, kindness and consideration in everyday interactions.
The video explores how children can develop these skills over time, from learning simple social conventions such as saying please and thank you, sharing and taking turns, to recognising personal boundaries, adapting behaviour to different situations and resolving conflicts respectfully. Teachers are encouraged to help children understand that respect is shown not only through what is said but also through tone of voice, body language and awareness of other people’s needs. The video also highlights the importance of recognising cultural differences, individual needs and diverse experiences, ensuring that expectations around manners remain inclusive and supportive for all children.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
