How to save work
This Computing video supports teachers in developing pupils’ understanding of how digital work is saved, stored and retrieved. It explores the importance of saving files and introduces the key concepts and vocabulary children need when creating and managing digital work.
The video explains different ways that files can be saved in a range of software programs. Teachers are supported in introducing save buttons, menu options, keyboard shortcuts and save icons, as well as helping children understand how files can be named and stored in different locations to make them easier to find again.
It also explores the differences between software installed on a device and web-based applications that save work automatically. The video explains how files can be exported or downloaded into different formats and highlights how these processes may vary between programs.
The video supports teachers in helping children understand why saving work is important and how digital files are organised. It encourages the use of real-world comparisons, such as storing classroom resources, to help pupils develop a secure understanding of how files are saved, located and managed.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which provide guidance and support to help teachers develop confidence and subject knowledge when delivering the computing curriculum.
