Teaching online and in-person connections

This RSE & PSHE video supports teachers in introducing children to the different ways people can spend time together online and in person. It explains how the unit helps children recognise simple similarities and differences between online and in-person interactions, laying the foundations for later learning about digital relationships and online safety.

The video provides guidance on teaching key vocabulary, such as online and in person, using clear, age-appropriate examples, including video calls, watching videos, playing games and spending time face to face with friends and family. Teachers are encouraged to help children consider why people might choose different ways to connect and to recognise that online interactions can support relationships, particularly when people are far apart. The video also highlights the importance of safe internet use, adult supervision and following safeguarding procedures if concerns arise.
