Vaccines and vaccination
This RSE & PSHE video introduces pupils to the immune system and explains how the body responds when harmful germs cause an infection. Pupils learn that the immune system can remember germs it has encountered before, helping it respond more quickly if the same germ enters the body again.
Using the story of Edward Jenner and the development of the first successful vaccine, the video explains how vaccines help prepare the immune system to recognise and fight particular germs. Pupils learn that different vaccines protect against different diseases and that vaccines cannot prevent every illness but can reduce the risk of serious illness and help limit the spread of infection. The video also introduces some of the ways vaccines can be given, including injections and nasal sprays.
