Understanding emotions and how they change

This RSE & PSHE video introduces the children to what emotions are and helps them understand that emotions are quick reactions to things happening around them. Through simple prompts, the children reflect on their own experiences and notice how their bodies and brains respond to different situations.

The children learn about six common emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disgust and surprise, with clear examples of what might cause each one. The video explains that emotions can change throughout the day and usually last a short time, helping the children understand that it is normal to experience a range of feelings. The children are encouraged to notice their emotions and begin to talk about what is happening inside their minds and bodies, supporting the development of emotional awareness and vocabulary.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS1 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
