Introducing routers

This Computing scheme of work video introduces the role of a router and how it helps devices connect and communicate with each other. It supports learning from the Year 3 Computing systems and networks 1: Networks unit, where children explore the different parts that make up a computer network.

The video explains that a router is like a traffic manager, guiding information between devices such as computers, tablets and smartphones so they can share data and stay connected. Everyday examples show how routers make activities like playing games online or watching videos possible by delivering information quickly and to the right place.

Pupils also discover how routers are used not only at home but in schools, offices and busy places like airports to keep networks running smoothly, even when lots of people are online at the same time.
