How files travel to and from cloud storage
This Computing video shows the children how files travel across a network when they are saved to and accessed from cloud storage. The children explore the role different pieces of network hardware play in transferring information between devices.
The video follows a file from a device through a router and, on larger local networks, a switch, before travelling across the internet to a server. The children learn that cloud storage uses servers connected to the internet and discover how files can travel back across a network to be opened on different devices, helping them understand how devices, routers, switches and servers work together to transfer and store files.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing videos, which help pupils develop their understanding of computer systems and digital technology. It encourages children to recognise how computers are used in everyday life and the different ways they can help us.
