The rhythm rap

This Music video helps Year 3 pupils remember the duration of different note values and rests through a catchy rhythm rap. Children join in with repeated lyrics while revisiting crotchets, paired quavers, minims and crotchet rests, reinforcing key musical vocabulary in an engaging way.

The video supports pupils in developing their understanding of rhythm by linking note values to memorable words and actions. As they clap, sing and move along with the rap, children strengthen their recall of how long each note or rest lasts while maintaining a steady beat.

Through repeated performance, pupils build fluency in recognising note values and applying this knowledge when reading and performing rhythms. The video encourages active participation and provides an enjoyable way to embed essential rhythmic concepts.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when helping children explore rhythm and musical notation.
