How babies grow before birth

This RSE & PSHE video helps the children understand how a baby grows and develops during pregnancy. Using clear, factual and age-appropriate explanations, the video explores what happens after an egg is fertilised and how a baby develops in the womb over approximately nine months.

The children learn about the different stages of pregnancy, from a fertilised egg developing into an embryo and then a foetus, through to a fully developed baby ready to be born. The video explains how the growing baby receives oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord and explores some of the important developments that take place before birth. It also introduces different ways babies can be born and highlights the care and support a new baby needs from family members after birth.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE KS2 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore growth and change and help develop personal, social and emotional skills, as well as an understanding of relationships and health education.
