This animated RSE & PSHE video teaches pupils when it is appropriate to call 999 and what happens during an emergency call. It explains that 999 should be used when someone is seriously ill, badly injured or in immediate danger and introduces the different emergency services that an operator may connect the caller to.

Through Sophie’s example call, pupils learn how to speak calmly and clearly, explain what has happened and give as much information as they can about their location. The video reassures pupils that it is acceptable not to know every answer and explains why ambulance call handlers ask questions about the person in need of help. Pupils also learn that an ambulance can be sent while questions are still being asked and that they should remain on the phone until the handler says the call can end.
