Unit outcomes

Pupils who are secure will be able to:

  • Describe what a place of worship is.
  • Recognise different places of worship.
  • Give at least two reasons why some people go to places of worship.
  • Give some reasons why people may choose to go to a mosque.
  • Name some features of the mosque that help people pray.
  • Describe how some churches are different from others.
  • Name one similarity and one difference between churches and mosques.
  • Explain how one feature of the gurdwara shows that sharing and fairness is important to many Sikhs.
  • Identify how two places of worship are similar or different.
  • Design a place of worship that includes appropriate features.

These lessons explore and compare places of worship within the Muslim, Christian and Sikh worldviews. You may wish to visit a local place of worship to support the children’s learning.  It is important to risk-assess the visit taking into account any relevant school risk assessment policies and procedures.
