Unit overview

This Religion and worldviews unit overview video introduces teachers to the key concepts and enquiry explored in the unit Y6 Unit: Why is it better to be there in person? It outlines how pupils investigate beliefs, ideas and scripture from a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, including Christian, Humanist, Jewish and Muslim perspectives.

The video explores how children develop an understanding of spirituality, significant places and pilgrimage. It explains how pupils examine why certain places are meaningful for believers, who visits them and the reasons behind these journeys, helping them to understand why being physically present can hold particular importance.

Teachers are guided through how the unit builds on prior learning about significant places, while supporting pupils to make connections with their own experiences and developing sense of identity. The video also highlights how pupils explore pilgrimage as both a physical and metaphorical journey, using real-life examples such as Hajj and journeys to Jerusalem.

It addresses key misconceptions, supports respectful classroom discussion and demonstrates how pupils engage with concepts through different disciplinary lenses, including history, geography and philosophy.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews videos. It supports teachers in confidently delivering the unit, encouraging thoughtful discussion and helping pupils to understand both diverse perspectives and their own developing worldview.
