Understanding Samsara and rebirth

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers delivering a lesson exploring the concept of Samsara — the cycle of birth, life, death and reincarnation — found in many Hindu, Buddhist and Jain worldviews. It also supports teaching Sikh beliefs around reincarnation and the soul. The video explains how karma, the law of cause and effect, links closely with this cycle and influences future lives. Pupils learn how good or bad actions affect the journey of the soul or consciousness, and how this belief can encourage ethical living and compassion.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – Hindu. It helps teachers explain key terms such as reincarnation, Moksha, Mukti, and Nirvana in an age-appropriate way, clarifying differences between worldviews. It also introduces the Buddhist understanding of the non-fixed self and the idea of consciousness, helping to avoid common misconceptions. Teachers are supported to deliver thoughtful, inclusive lessons and to guide pupils in comparing and reflecting on these beliefs as part of their own developing worldview.
